Finnish Forest Management Practice Recommendations

Responsible forestry means that the forests are tended and used in ecologically, economically and socially sustainable ways.

Forest Management Practice Recommendations present the principles and methods applied in connection with the sustainable forestry practised in Finland’s commercial forests.

Forestry Development Centre Tapio is the body responsible for the recommendations. These pages present the central aspects of these recommendations.

The emblem chosen to accompany the recommendations is the capercaillie, which is the most magnificent of Finland’s forest-dwelling birds. The capercaillie needs a variety of habitats. It can adapt itself to environments where forests have been treated by man as long as its leks (mating grounds) are retained.
